Phase 1 Orthodontic Treatment
At High Tide Orthodontics, we take a proactive approach to guiding your child’s smile from an early age. Phase 1 treatment also known as early interceptive orthodontics is designed for younger patients, typically between ages 5 and 10, when baby and adult teeth are both present.
During this stage, we focus on creating the right foundation for future growth by improving jaw development, creating space for permanent teeth, and supporting healthy airway function. Depending on your child’s needs, we may use braces (yes, even on baby teeth!), clear aligners, or palatal expanders to gently guide the upper arch and correct early bite or spacing concerns.
Our team also understands that a healthy smile starts with healthy breathing. That’s why we pay close attention to airway development in our pediatric patients. Using the Pediatric Sleep Disordered Breathing (PSDB) checklist, Dr. Trev evaluates risk factors for sleep-related breathing issues early on. By identifying and addressing airway concerns, we can support proper jaw growth, overall health, and restful sleep.
Early treatment can make later orthodontic phases simpler, shorter, and more comfortable setting your child up for a confident, healthy smile that grows with them.
